Dear Semi-Masked World,
Last night I had a terrible nightmare, a tiny demonic spike protein swarming in globules all around my neck playing hide and seek on an N95 mask resting gleefully on my neck. While I left home to visit the bank, I had lectured all at home on how to wear a mask, but a few yards of walking to the bank in this summer heat, made me so very exhausted, that I had decided to pull down the Over-Protective 5 layered N95 on my neck and happily buy fruits from an unmaked fruit vendor on a day when the positivity rate in my city is almost 20 percent!
Literally in the darkness of the night I jumped out of bed. Since from the days of Lockdown me and my husband stay in separate houses as a means of precaution as he has to attend office regularly, my sudden movement across the dark bed thankfully did not stir a soul. Everywhere I stared after splashing some water on my ghastly face, the naughty viruses still refused to move. Hallucination? Well, I am not on drugs, not even on sleeping pills. In college as a biology student, every time we worked with microbes under the microscope, we had such a wonderful pleasure. I always felt humans are so damn intelligent and we are playing around with viruses and look who's talking now?
Believe me, those proteins were mimicking me, 'Hey Saheli Madam, let's play with you, let's rape your lungs a bit, let's pierce your heart, one even shot a sputum at me! Like that black albatross in a soot spilled lake, I got drowned into sleep again. Only to wake up early morning realising I still live in a virus laden world.
Never mind, we shall fight it out. Else why are we humans so courageous to go around Maskless in the times of Pandmic. And why do we always wear masks below the nose, on the forehead or on our necks? For we are so sure that those spike proteins that were threatening me in my sleep will never wipe us out? Really? Never? Standing like a Dinosaur, I was fisting and kicking them out, like a Bruce Lee movie, only to realise the mighty dinosaurs too were gone one day. Evolution never spares the weak and indisciplined!
My nightmare has pressed my panic button, has it done the same to you?
